Short article today. Google recently announced their competition to ChatGPT, Bard. The announcement did not go well and Google’s stock dropped by 20% right off a cliff. But don’t count them out just yet, they might still come out swinging. Microsoft though has been historically stronger than Google when it comes to devops and in the end, GPT-3 is likely to be an engine behind many other applications, and so dev ops will become more and more important - I remain convinced that no mere mortal can understand Google’s documentation on their Speech Recognition software, mostly since it’s buggy, outdated and just an absolute pain. Google has been coasting for a while, with search resulting in mostly terrible and samey sites, and so this could be a real shake up.
Especially since Microsoft announced their new and updated Bing with extra brainpower - a new version of GPT which can access up to date info. Not sure why they needed to piggyback off the quite unsuccessful Bing brand instead of just calling it ChatGPT but there you have it. Initial reports are saying it’s surprisingly good which does have me worried - if this becomes too successful will anyone be visiting the original sites? What if new content on the web becomes dead? We’ll have to wait and see.
Quora, my own personal addiction, also recently launched Poe, a model aggregator which allows you to talk to a bunch of different advanced models. Think HuggingFace without being so techy. I think it’s a great idea and if Quora can pull it off successfully, I see them becoming bigger and bigger.
I’m excited for the future. So much cool stuff happening.
